Kendriya Vidyalaya Ernakulam- Established in May 1965, the Vidyalaya is one of the premier institutions of its kind in Kerala State, under Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, New Delhi. Situated in the heart of the city, very close to Ernakulam Railway Station, it has a sprawling campus, 7and 1/2 acres, gifted with a green canopy and serene ambience. It primarily caters to the educational needs of the children of Central Govt. and State Govt. employees stationed in and around Kochi. | | | IMPORTANT MILESTONES OF GROWTH The Vidyalaya which was located initially at Perumanoor in the shipyard campus admitted students in Standards VI to IX. the year 1970 was memorable as the Vidyalaya moved into the prsent Campus at Kadavanthra. The new +2 pattern of eduacation was introduced in IX standard from 1977. Now the Vidyalaya has 4 sections each in Classes I to X and 3 sections for Science Stream and 1 section for Commerce Stream at the +2 level. | | | GRADUAL YEAR WISE EXPANSION IN CLASSES AND SECTIONS LEADING TO PRESENT STATUS- 1965 - Inception of the Vidyalaya. Admotted students from stds VI to IX
- 1966 - Introduction of Stds I to V and X
- 1970 - The Vidyalaya moved into the present Campus to Kadavathara
- 1975 - Introduction of the new +2 pattern of education.
- 1977 - Introduction of Class XI
- 1988 - Construction of compound wall and the staff quarters.
- 2001-02 - The Vidyalaya declared as a "Model School"
- 7 Dec 01 - Addition of Newly constructed Annexe Building with 2 classrooms, Physics,
- Chemistry, Biology and Computer Labs and Library.
- 2003 - Audio Visual room with LCD projector
- 2006 - Addition of a new computer lab
- 14 Feb 07 - Laying of the foundation stone for the Vidyalaya annexa by
- Shri Ranglal Jamula, IAS
- April 08 - Addition of a new section each in Classes I to XII.
- June 09 - Shifting of Classes VI to X to the new block
